The state government is expected to launch sales of the golden "Bayern Thaler," intended as an investment for private investors from around the world, in the fall.

Golden 'Bayern Thaler' to arrive in autumn
The coins are intended to be a Bavarian alternative to classic investment coins, according to the Ministry of Finance in Munich.
Two internationally common investment gold coins are, for example, the South African Krugerrand and the Canadian Maple Leaf, says Michael Eubel, head of the precious metals business at BayernLB. "There is currently no German equivalent." Key characteristics of investment coins are their high gold content, standard sizes, and a design that has changed little or not at all over the decades – in contrast to gold commemorative coins, whose appearance changes frequently. The motif on the obverse of the Bayern Thaler is Neuschwanstein Castle.
The Bavarian bullion coin has been available in silver since March. According to Finance Minister Albert Füracker, it has already become a sought-after collector's item. "Since its launch in March, approximately 41,000 ounces of the Bavarian Thaler, equivalent to approximately 1,300 kilograms of fine silver, have already been sold by the Bavarian State Mint." According to the CSU politician, the "premium version" in solid gold is intended to be an attractive option for all investors.
